Lighting Enhancement at St Mary the Virgin Church, Fownhope
Our recent lighting upgrade at St Mary the Virgin Church in Fownhope focused on transforming the internal environment while respecting the historic and architectural significance of this remarkable building.
St Mary’s Church has stood at the heart of the village for centuries, with origins dating back to the Norman period.
Our works involved the complete removal of the existing internal lighting system and the installation of a new DALI-controlled LED architectural lighting scheme. The new system delivers significantly improved energy efficiency while providing a far more versatile and responsive lighting environment.
Using DALI scene-setting controls, the church can now adapt lighting levels and moods for different services, events, concerts, and community use. The upgraded scheme provides enhanced uniform illumination throughout the main worship areas while also introducing carefully focused lighting to highlight key architectural and historical features within the church.
Particular attention was given to preserving the character of the interior by integrating discreet modern fittings that complement the historic fabric of the building. The result is a balanced lighting design that improves visibility, enhances ambience, and celebrates the beauty and heritage of the church interior.
The completed installation has transformed the usability and presentation of the space, creating a welcoming and flexible environment for both worshippers and visitors while substantially reducing energy consumption and ongoing maintenance requirements.
