The church of St Lawrence in Bradwell Village dates back 800 years and since then the building has undergone many changes up to the present time. The addition of an annexe provided the facilities and the space needed when Bradwell Village began to grow as part of the developing Milton Keynes in the 1980s and 90s.
The lighting within St Lawrence was poor, comprising of a few wall lights and 2 suspended pendants. Twin fluorescent bulkheads provided some additional light throughout but were less than sympathetic to this beautiful church.
We provided a lighting design and specification, and were asked to carry out the installation work. With the existing lighting and cabling removed, we installed a new DALI controlled LED lighting system. LED projector spots were installed throughout providing general and focussed lighting. The roof has been illuminated and specific spot lights provided to illuminate the font, lectern, organ, piano and Altar. A 10 button scene plate has been installed adjacent to the main door to operate the lighting. 2 wireless switches were also installed at the rear of the church to turn on some of the lights upon entry and switch off the lights when leaving the church. Operation of the lighting is also possible using a smart phone or tablet.
Works completed within 2 weeks and the lighting scenes were programmed according to the needs of the church during a handover session.
